Critical Urbanity

Mies Van De Rohe Foundation, Genoa
2012

The Sopralevata is a historic highway in Genoa that formed a belt around the city. With the urban growth, the desperation between nature and the sea was emphasized by the sole excitable if the highway. Once serving as a connection, it now morphed to become a barrier.

The revitalization of the Sopralevata using all forms of communication and harvesting their energy to bring back the pedestrian was thought to be the ideal solution to the problematic in had which would allow the rekindling of the connection that once existed between rural palaces in nature to the urban fabric bringing it back to the sea.
